The El Motkan Junior English-Arabic dictionary was prepared to fulfill the needs of elementary students in the Middle East and all over the world in the field of translation, study, and learning. It constitutes an essential tool for learning the English and Arabic languages, and for gaining mastery in them. This dictionary aspires to drive students to enjoy the pleasures of discovery and encourages stocking up on general knowledge. The lexical section of this dictionary contains thousands of definitions and synonyms in English to translate Arabic entries and clarify them, without neglecting to include some simple technical terms which enrich the Arabic student’s knowledge. Colored images were added to this lexical work to help the student grasp the intended meaning. The El Motkan Junior Dictionary was designed to benefit students in elementary classes who are still in the first steps of using dictionaries, and to make moving from one language to another easy and simple. This required including easy English equivalents and choosing Arabic entries that the student mostly uses at this age. General features:
English entries are typeset with broad letters so they can be clearly identified.
The morphological type (or types) belonging to various entries are typeset in italics, and placed between brackets after the entry.
Arabic equivalents point to the different meanings for a single English entry, and are organized according to the order given by morphological types.
The following dividers were utilized between Arabic equivalents: commas (,) to separate between synonyms; forward slash (/) to separate between Arabic equivalents that belong to one morphological type; and two forward slashes (//) to separate between Arabic equivalents that belong to two different morphological types.
