From our Non-Muslim friends and supporters!
"I just wanted to say that I was very happy to see the appearance of the Razanne doll. So much better than something like "Barbie" -- and the idea behind it, as expressed on CNN's web site today by the creator of the doll, Saadeh, 'The main message we try to put forward through the doll is that what matters is what's inside you, not how you look.' "
"You know, five minutes after the doll is out of the box, Barbie is naked for the rest of her life. I have two daughters and their Barbies haven't had a stitch of clothing on them for nine years. My oldest is 11, and her sister, 9, carries on the naked Barbie tradition. Good luck with your doll."
"I am not Muslim, but felt the need to tell you that it brings me much joy to see your company flourish. I read an article about you and your company on the CNN website today and was surely moved by the your aspirations you have and in doing so, carrying your values with you. I wish your company all the best. Bless you."
"I am a stay at home mother of 5 children. This morning I went into Yahoo to check my mail and came across your article on Razanne. I am not Muslim, but Mormon. I have always admired your female way of dress. It brings great delight to my heart to see the female body modestly covered and not a show peace for all to see. I have often thought about ordering just the clothing, just so I to could feel more modest in my daily life. What amazed me about your site, is how education I found it to be on the female Muslim dress, for instance, I had no idea that they had an "in and out" form of dress. I am amazed at your dedication to your faith and the desire to teach it in a fun and exciting way to your children. As a Latter-day Saint (Mormon), I have found it difficult to find clothing, dolls, and other materials that would support the modest beliefs we teach our children. I have disdain for the example in which Barbie sets for our children. It is this reason that I would love to support your efforts by letting other parents know about your web page. I would also encourage you to think about setting up a different area for other faiths that would encompass the modest factor. Both in toys, but also in clothing. I am highly impressed with your efforts, and will do my part in sharing this amazing site with others that I know. As a teen saying goes, "You go girl! I as a mother alone support what you are doing!"
"I just read an article about your dolls. I am not Islamic, but I wanted to convey my appreciation for creating a doll whose image has nothing to do with her looks. I think this is a wonderful idea, and will promote better self-esteem in young girls. I am very impressed with your product and I wish Mattel would follow suit and create a Barbie whose greatest assets were not physical. No wonder so many young women are preoccupied with appearances rather than self-respect and achieving educational goals."
"Just wanted to say I was impressed that you offer your young girls a Barbie doll that is modest and with a body that is more typical of a young woman. Although I am not Muslim (I am a Mormon) I appreciate the values you teach your children and hope that those good values will prevail in a world that seems to devalue time honored principals of modesty and virtue. Keep up the good work!"
"I am a Christian woman who loves modesty and common sense.
Thank you for your beautiful Razanne dolls. They are lovely."
"I've never written a note like this before but I wanted to write and tell you how excited I am about the new Razannedoll. I am not Muslim nor do I have anyone in my family who is but I highly respect the teachings of the prophet Muhammad. I knew that the Barbie doll was looked down upon and am so glad that Razanne fills that area for young Muslim girls. I know this may sound odd coming from me, a white, middle-class, single parent, Lutheran with teen aged daughters but I think there are many paths to God. I also believe that it is up to each of us to decide which path is the right one for us. I'm glad for all the different faiths and beliefs in the world and support another persons right to choose. If my daughters were younger I'd want the doll for them to explain the wonderful differences in people but they are now 15 and 17 and too old for that and it's not appropriate for my 4-year-old son. Anyway, good luck and I hope that you sell a bunch of dolls because that's lot o happy little girls!!! P.S. I looked around your website and have to tell you how impressed I was at how nicely the graphics were done and the large assortment of things available. I wish I spoke Arabic so I could read some of the things that were offered. Again I wish you peace and prosperity!"
"An excellent step towards growing nudity & misconception about Islam. Keep up the good work!"
"I just read the news story.Bravo on your doll RazanneI am Catholic and I, too, appreciate you giving young girls an image of dignity before God in place of this trashy agenda the world pushes to our little ones. There was a time when all women of all faiths covered themselves in respect for God.I deeply respect the practice of Muslim women 'covering up'.If Razanne is seen by non-Muslim little girls maybe they will develop the same love for modesty as well.I also appreciate the fact that under Razannes clothes of modesty ' there is not a grossly exaggerated body.Everyone is created by God and everyone's bodies are good.I also like the idea that she spans all eye and hair colors because that shows that modesty is not cultural practice it is practiced by women all over the world. I hope to see her in my local Toys 'R' Us.All Good wishes for you,"
"My hats off to you and your company. I just read about your new Muslim Barbie doll on Yahoo News and thoroughly enjoyed reading the article. It's about time someone like your company manufactured something with emphasis on the inside of a person rather than the outside. I'm extremely excited that this is happening. I'm intending on looking at the rest of your website and ordering the doll."
"Thank you so much for having enough guts to initiate this. Hopefully, this will help to bridge the gaps between the Christian and Muslim community and further create interfaith community in addition to helping young girls."
"I read about Razanne in this morning's newspaper and immediately went to your website to buy one for my 10-year old niece and one for my 19-year old daughter. We are Canadians. We believe in friendship, peace and intelligent awareness among cultures. The opportunities for such positive role modeling in the small community where we live are practically non-existent. Thank you and congratulations on a wonderful doll."
"Just wanted to say - Bravo! Keep up the good work."
"I just read an article on yahoo.com about your Razanne dolls, and though I'm not Muslim, I think you guys are doing a really good thing by providing dolls that are not only culturally more sensitive and relevant to Muslims, but also not demeaning towards women in the way that Barbie is. Keep up the good work!"
"I just finished reading about your Razanne doll on Yahoo and wanted to let you know that I think you are doing a wonderful thing. The stereotypical role models in North America is sickening and demeaning. It undermines everyone, especially our children. Although I am not Muslim, nor Arabic, I just wanted to let you know, I feel you are doing a wonderful service for little girls, Muslim or not. I am a white male, born and raised in a Christian environment, but have always been impressed with most of the Arabic families I have known. Most Christians could learn a thing or two from our Muslim neighbors."
"I find it very sad in these trying days with all that is happening in the Middle East and here in America concerning the prejudices between races and religions. And because of the nature of advertising in America, it's about time someone has taken such a positive step, such as you have. Bringing to market the Razanne doll for children, not only reinforces their religious upbringing, but also the morality of family and personal values that is sorely lacking in today's world."
"Bravo. I read the article announcing your Razanne doll at Yahoo.com. I have gone thru your catalogue and I'm impressed. Though that I'm Persian but not a follower of Islam, I applaud the love and conviction of your company to make progressive modern toys and entertainment for children of the Islamic faith. I hope the very best for you all that are employed at this company."
"I just saw your wonderful dolls for Muslim girls on the Internet. Thank you for providing this much-needed role model not only for young ladies of your faith, but for all girls to learn that there are many different and kind people in the world who want peace for each other. I hope that you will be successful and prosperous."
"I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.I just found out about your product on AOL and I think it is wonderful! I try very hard to teach my daughter about our 'friends' that belong to other churches, and come from a different cultural background than we do.I think that your Razanne doll is wonderful for supporting young Muslim girls in their faith when they see such different images in the world around them. (I know you know this I just want to tell you that I think that is great.) I want to congratulate you on your wonderful product and wish you the best.I also see the Razanne doll as a great opportunity for me to teach my daughter about modesty and also about the Muslim faith. As we draw closer to Christmas, I look forward to ordering Razanne for my daughter so that I may share with her another example of modesty, and so we both may grow in our understanding of the Muslim faith. Peace to you."
"I just read about your company on AOL. I felt the need to email you and congratulate you on the development of a doll that not only supports your religious beliefs, but also allows the girls to feel comfortable with themselves and to support their development and creativity. I will be purchasing a doll for my youngest child and one of her friends during the upcoming holidays. She has a friend in school, of Muslim faith and is always asking why her friend cannot have a doll to play with (i.e: a Barbie). Now she will!!! I have not seen these dolls in any major marketplace yet, I hope you will be able to market and expand beyond your website. I feel all children irregardless of faith, color, etc., should be able to learn about others."
"Hi, I just wanted to tell you that the new Barbie you have come out with is an excellent idea. I am not Muslim but I am going to buy one for my granddaughter because I like the fact your Barbie is not sexy and I think that your doll is appropriate for my eight year old. We have not bought her Barbies for that reason but this one will be nice for her. Thank you for designing something that young children can play with."
"Wow!
I appreciate the concept of Razanne. Applause...Applause."
"I have read your story on AOL about your doll, I am not a Muslim but applaud what you have done , keep up the good work there is more to life then just smut and trash."
"I read an article on CNN about your doll, Razenne. I am not a Muslim but I want to say that I admire what you are doing and I wish you much success.I have never liked Barbie and the message she gives to little girls and little boys about woman and their bodies.Dolls are important for children to learn to model grown-up behavior.By giving our children Barbies, we teach them disfavor a normal woman's body and we objectify woman.
I think you are providing a great alternative for all children, not just Muslim children, to have a doll that is not a "fashion" plate and that doesn't promote a false idea of what a woman is or should be. I don't have a daughter yet---I have a son--but should we have a daughter, I would consider getting your doll for her to play with as an alternative to Barbie. Good luck with your endeavor."
"Hello, I read about your doll on CNN and wanted to drop a quick note of thanks.I am a Catholic, but I have two daughters who have dolls, and I have forbidden Barbies in my house for some of the same reasons you have for creating a doll whose attributes do not all point toward sex appeal.Thank you for your efforts to promote inner beauty rather than outer beauty in your merchandise.Regards."
"I just read about your company on the CNN website. It was an article about your Barbie alternative. BRAVO! I applaud your efforts to provide both education and entertainment to children (and hopefully adults!) through your product line. I have 2 nieces (ages 5 and 7) and even though they are not Muslim, I plan to purchase toys and dolls from your website for upcoming holidays and birthdays for them in the hopes of providing diversity and multi-cultural understanding.Continued success to you and your company."
