Teaching language is a critical tool in communication and ultimately in the development of knowledge. In our quest to provide our customers with quality materials, we are pleased to offer the Learn Arabic series. It employs modern methods of teaching foreign language to successfully teach the Arabic language to students in K-12th grade. This series was founded upon the following three fundamentals of teaching languages presented in an Islamic context:
    1. Elements: Sounds, letters, phrases, and pronunciation
    2. Skills: Reading, writing, speaking, and listening
    3. Linguistic Functions: Introduction, greetings, description, requests, and apologies.
    Series Contents:
The Learn Arabic series consists of textbooks, workbooks, and teacher’s manuals for levels K-12th grade. The textbooks aim to present basic elements of the Arabic language and their functions, while the activity books focus on enrichment material with special emphasis on writing. The teacher’s manuals offer tips on teaching Arabic efficiently with positive results.

    Support Material:
Teachers will be pleased with the full array of support materials available, such as a collection of audio records, posters, and cards. These books also include ideas for additional activities, such as chants, competitions, and linguistic plays. All of these materials will help to make each lesson exciting and active for students.

    Student Textbook:
The Student Textbooks are comprised of 24 units: 66 basic lessons of new material, plus an additional 6 units for revision. Each basic unit contains 4 lessons of new material, including dialog text, expressions, and vocabulary, and communication exercises. These units contain conversations, pronunciations and expressions, grammatical structures, listening, reading, thinking, writing, and extra activities, such as selections of Qur’an, ahadith and Nasheed; where the teacher books include a midterm and final test. Answer keys can be found in the teacher's manuals.

    Activity Book:
The activity book simply enhance the material found within the student textbooks. They mainly concentrate on writing skills with some review of verbal skills. Each contains many different activities which can be done at school or at home, such as coloring and painting pages; word matches; reading letters and sentences; writing words, letters, and numbers; and answering questions. Some of the activities should be completed at home with a parent to strengthen the relationship between home and school.

    Jordan Academy of Arabic

Our Arabic Language for Grade Seven follows the curriculum for Arabic language and its general framework; it includes eight units. The writer was careful to choose a variety of reading texts such as poetry, narration, Quranic verses, hadiths, samples of scientists’ biographies, cultural, nationalistic, and Islamic essays, in addition to scientific, social, and literary articles, stories, plays, and tales. The book includes samples of feminist literature so that students can become familiar with different social issues and be equipped to communicate with others about these issues, while listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The units are handled in the following way:
    1. Reading Skill, and it includes:
      • The text, which is presented with full vowelization (tashkeel) and citation of the source
      • The context, which includes a full introduction of the author, their most important achievements, and a brief description of the text and its context
      • The reading, which includes exercises that focus on timed silent reading, expressive reading, and good recitation, taking into consideration the appropriate voice, and when to pause and how to continue
      • The glossary, which includes exercises that explain new vocabulary through the following methods: using a dictionary, using antonyms and synonyms, and using other appropriate methods such as guessing meanings and using related words and context clues
      • Reading comprehension and analysis, which includes questions and exercises to help students name the primary idea and secondary ideas, discover relationships and build conclusions, connect the texts with real situations in students’ lives, create secondary summaries for paragraphs, suggest alternative suitable titles for the text, and answer questions that build the student’s critical and creative thinking, problem solving, and appreciation of beauty
    2. Grammar: This unit includes grammatical exercises that reinforce Grade Six material. Grammar and morphology should be taught through the texts that include the grammar, followed by study: eliciting the grammar rule from the students through conversation and demonstrating self-learning. Several grammar and morphological exercises are included so that students can learn from the examples. The complementary method was used: it combines inductive and syllogistic methods.
    3. Texts: This unit includes a selection of poems students use to increase their ability to read aloud expressively, to understand and enjoy literature, and to maximize their linguistic outcomes. The poetry they memorize also helps them enrich their ability to communicate and express, in addition to introducing them to a new group of authors.
    4. Speaking: The units include exercises and activities connected to the content of the text to develop students’ speaking skills and verbal communication.
    5. Writing: The units include applications of some of the spelling issues presented in texts or sentences, followed by study and exercises.
    6. Listening: The units include listening scripts both in the listening scripts booklet and in the dictation booklet. These scripts are followed by questions to develop multiple listening skills.
    7. Activity: All units are reinforced with activities related to the unit material.

To achieve this goal, the series provides the student with educational materials that will help him to utilize formal Arabic from the start and will create the opportunity for him to use what he is learning in real conversations.
The series is directed towards non-Arabic speaking children ages 6-18 years. It consists of fourteen levels, each level includes three books which are:
    1. Student’s Book.

The lessons gradually advance and each principle is revisited from one lesson to the next. It also includes the entirety of the Arabic syntax rules in the levels (fifth- twelfth) and combines application with practical training based upon theoretical rule.

    Integration between the linguistic skills:
The series addresses the four main linguistic skills which are: reading, listening, speaking and writing in a balanced integrated way. Special attention is given to speaking and understanding what is heard in the first two books. In the third through sixth books the concentration is on dictation and reading. In the seventh through ninth books the aim is to connect schools with Arabic libraries, children’s magazines, encyclopedias and helps to simplify knowledge departments.
And in the tenth through twelfth books subjects and literature is presented in their original text with some adjustment. It also presents chosen examples of poetry prose from the poets Al Jahili, Al Omawi, Al Abbasi along with contemporary poets.

    Educational material presenting methods:
Different methods are used in this series to make the lesson exciting for the child. Stories, songs, conversations, linguistic games and entertaining homework are incorporated in the lessons to entice learning and help students identify their preferences. It also helps to awaken students' passion for drawing, coloring and teamwork.
The series includes different types of linguistic exercises that suit children. An emphasis has been given in terms of mental and physical activities, whether performed in pairs or groups.

    Vocabulary list:
There is a list of vocabulary at the end of each book in this series that contains all vocabularies and expressions which were presented in all book lessons. The words are alphabetized so the student can find the words needed easily.

This book includes 7 educational units that center on children's environment and their everyday activities.
The units are organized as follows:
    • Let's Talk. Each unit begins with a conversation that includes the linguistic elements, vocabulary, expressions, and grammatical structures. The goal of the conversation is to make the learning process easy and to enable students to communicate using the language.
    • New Vocabulary. Illustrated words enrich children's vocabulary and provide them with new words to use.
    • Speaking: Speaking exercises to be completed in pairs allow children to gain fluency using the language by encouraging interaction, sharing, and communication between students.
    • Reading: The reading texts contain a variety of cultural topics and come in a variety of shapes in order to meet children’s needs to learn about the world around them and become cultured.
    • The goal here is to:
      1. Accustom students to silent reading and understanding of the content, so that they can become independent readers.
      2. Accustom students to reading aloud, so that the teacher can correct their reading and pronunciation.
    • New structures. In each unit, students practice creating a new structure of basic Arabic structures. The book presents examples that students can use to create new structures with the help of their teacher.
    • Supporting vocabulary. The student's book contains supporting vocabulary in the form of an illustrated dictionary in the back of the book. It includes new expressions with pictures to aid in students’ retention of the information.

    Abdul Wahid Hamid

This is a complete set of the Graded Steps in Qur'an Reading and Arabic Handwriting Course with books, workbooks, CDs, and other audiovisual aids for teaching reading the Arabic script, rules of Qur'anic recitation based on the Uthmani script, and Arabic handwriting.

Students need to be able to read and write the Arabic script in order to learn Arabic as a language and study the Qur'an. The Arabic script is phonetically precise and easy to learn and teach. MELS books, charts, and audio materials make this process easy and enjoyable. Reading the Qur’an beautifully is both science and art. For reading the Qur’an, we recommend Graded Steps in Qur’an Reading which uses the Uthmani script of the Madinah mushaf, beautifully written by the Damascene calligrapher, Uthman Taha.

There is a Teacher’s/Self-Study Edition with full explanatory notes in English and a Student's Edition. Each unit and each line of text is numbered. This makes it easy to follow the recording and is particularly helpful for both classroom teaching and individual use. The text is recorded onto CDs. Each unit is a separate track on the CDs. You can thus go to a unit and repeat it as often as necessary. The Arabic script is a quintessential part of Islamic art. Learn the basics of calligraphy using the MELS Easy Steps in Arabic Handwriting Workbooks. See how words are formed from individual letters; trace, copy, and compose words; and write from dictation.

A summary chart shows the Arabic letters in all of their forms, with standard English equivalents and as they appear in words.
    Includes:
    1. Graded Steps in Qur'an Reading Student’s Edition
    2. Graded Steps in Qur'an Reading Teacher’s/ Self-Study Edition
    3. Easy Steps in Arabic Handwriting: Workbook 1

The purpose of this book is to set students on the road to learning Modern Standard Arabic by equipping them with all the skills they need to read and write vowelised Arabic texts. By the end of the book students should be able to:
    • identify all the letters of the Arabic alphabet in their isolate and joined forms
    • know the difference between the long and short vowel sounds and how to read them, including the diphthongs ay and ow
    • read the tanween word endings
    • understand the roles of sukoon and shadda
    • read words containing a hamza, no matter its position within a word
    • recognise the alif al-maqsura
    • identify the sun and moon letters and understand their effect on the pronunciation of words defined by al-
    • read fully vowelised Arabic text
Although this work is primarily intended for classroom use, it is also well-suited to self-taught learners. To this end, an audio CD recording of all the materials in the book will be made available to help foster good pronunciation. This workbook assumes no prior knowledge of Arabic whatsoever. Clear, simple explanations introduce each new topic, supported by a wealth of exercises and activities, thereby helping to reinforce the learning process and to ensure rapid progression. The use of colour coding to highlight each point under discussion, as well as the inclusion of quality colour illustrations, serve to enhance the learning experience. The materials included offer extensive reading and writing practice as well as the opportunity for dictation exercises as a means of monitoring the learners progress. By the end of the book, students should be sufficiently competent in reading and writing the Arabic script to be able to progress to part two of the series in which they will start to learn Arabic grammar and vocabulary; read and construct sentences with understanding; and begin speaking this important international language.

    1. Introduce the lesson without referencing the book.
    2. Read the lesson, drawing students’ attention to the repetition of previous material, explaining new material, and asking students questions to ensure that they understood it.
    3. Put students into groups.
    4. Give students time to complete all of the oral exercises, and let them complete the same exercises in written format outside of class.

      2. Second test: for units 5:8 (at the end of the first book in this level)
      3. Third test: for units 9:12 (at the middle of the second book in this level)
      4. Fourth test: fro units 13:16 (at the end of the second book in this level)
There are no audio records for final and midtrial tests because answers have to be given from the students not the teacher.

At the end of the fourth level, there are lists of vocabulary used n each unit and another list of all the vocabularies of the level arranged alphabetically.

Arabic in Your Hands is part of a collection of programs called Arabic For All. The series includes a book that introduces a comprehensive curriculum for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers, students, and teachers. This curriculum was developed for educational entities, including schools, institutes, and universities.
It begins at a basic level and continues with students until they master the Arabic language, enabling them to enter university and continue their Arabic studies in various majors. The series was designed by the authors of the original series—an academic team specialized in teaching Arabic for non-Arabic speakers.

The teacher’s books are identical to the student books and aim at providing teachers with techniques and procedures to help them teach every page in the student book effectively in a way that achieves the best results. The teacher’s book includes an answer key for all exercises in the student book. Each teacher’s book includes the student book for the same level (the two parts) with a smaller page size to make it easy for the teacher to follow the educational material of the student without needing the student book itself.

There are four teacher’s books, one for each level as follows.
    1. The first teacher’s book is for the two student books in the first level.
    2. The second teacher’s book is for the two student books in the second level.
    3. The third teacher’s book is for the two student books in the third level.
    4. The fourth teacher’s book is for the two student books in the fourth level.

The teacher’s books have many advantages, including the following.
    • General guidelines for teachers teaching a language to non-native speakers, along with techniques for presenting different language skills and elements
    • Suggestions on the exercises in each level along with suggestions for additional exercises
    • Answers to the exercises in the student books (except for communicative and expression exercises), along with comprehension texts
    • Answers to the questions on comprehensive tests in the student books (standard, midlevel, and final)
    • Summaries of the structures, vocabulary, and sounds included in each unit and a suggestion for presenting different types of vocabulary
    • Summaries of the objectives of each unit and how to present the texts
    • Description of the units' structures and how to introduce the structures

Other advantages included in teacher’s books are 35 general guidelines for teachers and 24 guidelines on 67 tips about teaching language, its skills and elements, and how to manage a language classroom.

A preliminary handbook for beginner students, this book precedes the first student book in the Arabic in Your Hands series. It teaches reading and writing. This book presents the letters in their separate and connected forms. Letters are arranged beginning with the easiest letters to draw (they change the least when connected).

Students begin writing by passing the pen over the targeted letter in its different shapes and then progress to writing the letter, passing the pen over the word, and finally, writing the word. The words used are common words, so that students will not be distracted by searching for the definitions. This method is free from the negatives of the traditional method. It can be taught in two school weeks.
