Yasmin is visiting her grandmother in the Middle East. She hears the muathin making his first call to prayer before dawn but she is too tired to get up. She watches Teta make wudu (ablution) to prepare for worship. Yasmin wonders how she will know when to pray at home because there are no mosques where she lives, but her grandmother assures her they will find a way. Sadly, the visit comes to an end, and Teta takes Yasmin to the airport. When the girl arrives home, she unpacks her gifts, her prayer clothes, and her mat, and she finds a surprise box from Teta. In it, she discovers a miniature mosque that gives the adhan (prayer call) five times a day. This is a beautifully woven tale of a grandparent's affection and spiritual development. Gannon's illustrations present a warm and authentic balance of Islamic geometric designs and Arab architecture and culture. This bilingual, English and Arabic book ends with an explanation of salah – the five times during the day of worship for Muslims.

It’s a step by step guide to perfecting your child's obligatory prayers according to the Quran and the Sunnah and an excellent and exceptionally clear guidebook for learning the Islamic prayer. Simplistic layout establishes what is uttered before and during the prayer accompanied by illustrations that indicate the precise movements and positions of the prayer. Included are all relevant Qur'anic verses and haddith that are related to the prayer as well as optional verses from Qur'an and du’a' before, during and after the prayer. The text is written in Arabic, transliterated English and with English meaning. All this information is clearly laid out in a small, well illustrated little book that captures the attention of both children and adults. We did notice one omission in that the recitation of Surah Al Fatiha was not mentioned until the introduction of the second Raka, but nevertheless stated that it must be read in each Raka of the prayer.

The best prayers are often the ones we say naturally when we are happy, excited or sad about something. But at that time, we don’t always find the right words to express our inner feelings. Reading these prayers from the Quran, you will find the best words and phrases to pray with, at any time and in any situation. In that way, you will find yourself closer to Allah, as if you are whispering to Him. Then it will not be just you alone, but an exchange between you and the Almighty, which will begin to flow, inspiring and lighting up your mind and heart. May this collection of prayers bring you wisdom and many blessings.
