In this book each ruku' is treated as a separate lesson. The original Arabic text and two translations (Yusuf Ali and Pickthall - both revised and rendered into modern English) are utilized. The original commentary of the verses of the Qur'an by Yusuf Ali is also included with each lesson as well as a complete glossary of the Arabic text.
This is the long awaited work on the history of Muslim civilization, written by the scholars who have an insider’s insight into the tradition and culture of Muslim people. This work is a concise introduction to the vast panorama of Muslim Civilization. The first volume (in the series of three) covers the period of Late Antiquity to the collapse of Umayyad rule. Instructors will be able to effortlessly utilize the book’s 50+ lessons, taking advantage of complete vocabulary listings as well as review questions supplied at the end of each. Special boxed sections provide informative glimpse at contemporary reports and primary source material. A chronological timeline of Muslim history, genealogical charts of major figures and a glossary of Islamic terms complete this educational work. The history of any given people is not only a record of its past but also a mirror of its present and a window to its future. Every society must learn from its past and work out a plan for its future. Muslim history, in many ways, is like any other, with its own fair share of villains and champions, its moments of grandeur and tranquility and its moments of failure and disappointments. But in one way it is special to itself for it is the history of the continual opportunities, offered to every man, woman and child, of realizing themselves and of coming closer to their Creator. The record of Muslim civilization is in fact the history of many different cultures and civilizations that shared one central quality; they kept alive the faith of Islam and kept alive the vision of the perfect society, which existed only once but remained an ideal for all generations. These civilizations kept alive a model of a perfect life, the model of a most generous and spiritual people, a model for each life as it comes and goes. A History of Muslim Civilization is a unique textbook written specially for the younger generations of Western-born Muslims and all those interested in learning about the History of Muslims from a Muslim perspective. This volume is the first one in the series of three. It deals with a past which can easily be divided into three parts:
The world before the mission of Prophet Muhammad.
The 1ife and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
Muslim civilization after the demise of Prophet Muhammad until the collapse of the Umayyad. regime.
A well-designed curriculum serving the mission of Islamic schools to teach and transmit a common set of beliefs, values and norms

Sheikh Ali Tantawi
Iman is indeed the heart of life, especially in this increasingly materialistic world we live in! This is the first volume of the Islamic Services Foundation's three-volume Islamic Studies series, Living Islam, designed for high school and college students as well as general readers. It presents the concept of faith in Islam and its six major constructs, the six Pillars of Faith:
Belief in God
Belief in His angels
Belief in His books
Belief in His prophets and messengers
Belief in the Day of Judgment
and belief in qadar (destiny).
We have selected the landmark book on this subject, Ta'reef `Aam Bideen-il-Islam (General Introduction to Islam) by Shaikh Ali Tantawi, may Allah shower his soul with His mercy. Well-known in the Arab world and translated into English and other languages, this unique book has influenced the minds and hearts of masses of students and intellectuals around the world.
Relying extensively on the Majestic Qur'an and Prophet Muhammad's (s) guidance on the subject of faith, Tantawi presents the very wellsprings of Islamic religious tradition and inspires his readers to understand what Allah and His Prophet want us learn about the divine world.
The publisher Islamic Services Foundation are grateful to the family of Shaikh Ali Tantatwi for permitting us to republish his book in a textbook format, and bring it to the attention of unlimited numbers of students and readers in the US and around the world. It should be noted that Shaikh Ali Tantawi's work is the main text body of this book. However, in the process of developing this great work into a textbook, we had to supply some necessary, but minor, modifications and add needed materials in distinct forms, such as side boxes, readers, related texts and other noticeable formats.

This book is a useful curriculum for schools teaching the interpretation of the whole Qur’an. The authors followed one systematic, closed, and gradual method while they interpreted the Qur’an. Here are some points that were followed:
Clear and simple sentences appropriate to students’ ages and levels
Each lesson begins with new and previous vocabulary words that students need to know while learning the meanings of the Qur’an
Brief introductions explains general ideas for each Surah
Interpretation for each Surah in direct language
Provides a connection between previous Surahs and upcoming ones
Provides one interpretation that most interpreters agree on with careful avoidance of weak and multi-interpretations
Follows the predecessor method while interpreting Allah’s character verses
Provides several enrichment activities that aim to stimulate students while searching and thinking of Surahs’ meanings; thus, these activities keep information fresh in the minds of students while they discuss the results with teachers
Provides each Surah with significant lessons for teachers to bridge the connection between each theme and its related verse. This is useful to guide students and deepen their Islamic morals
Each lesson ends with multiple questions which aim to evaluate student comprehension
Provides foot notes of sayings, narrations, events, or ahaddith related to the lesson theme which enriches students’ knowledge
Provides only Al-Sahih ahaddith, plus mentions the group of ahadith reporters and the history behind each Sarah’s revelation
