This is a two-volume set of books in Spanish entitled Islamic Jurisprudence. The first volume covers worship, discussing the legitimate rites of worship that Allah has ordained for us. The second volume covers topics related to human transactions and interactions.
Islamic Jurisprudence (fiqh) is the study of the different opinions and rulings deduced from the original Islamic sources—the Quran and Sunnah—so that Muslims can put Islamic teachings into practice in all aspects of their lives.
Therefore, these volumes deal with fiqh topics covering all areas of human life, offering answers for every question with knowledge and wisdom. This book includes rulings on rites of worship, human interactions, trade, contracts, and international policies. It also includes the administrative laws of justice, war, and peace. This work aims to convey in simple terms the basic precepts that every Muslim should know and apply in their daily lives.
This book joins the list of books offered by IIPH for Spanish speakers, as part of its effort to contribute to the diffusion of Islam knowledge and improve the quality of information available about Islam.

Sayyid Abul Ala Mawdudi
First Principles of Islamic Economics collects together the major writings on Islamic economics by Sayyid Abul A'la Mawdudi (1903-79), one of the leading Muslim intellectuals of the twentieth century. Written between the 1930s and the 1960s, Mawdudi laid down the foundations of modern Islamic economic philosophy. Drawing upon the teachings of the Qur'an and sunnah, Mawdudi spelled out major elements of a new paradigm for economic analysis and policy, wherein economic pursuits take place in the context of moral values and directed towards achievement of personal and social objectives. The uniqueness of this approach lies in making efficiency and equity inseparable and interdependent. In an Islamic framework, creation and distribution of wealth become instrumental in promoting individual and social well being, enabling the economic discipline to open up pathways to economic development, social justice and human welfare.
This collection is highly recommended for practitioners, scholars and students of Islamic finance.

ElSayed Amin critiques misreadings of key verses in the Qur'an that have been used to establish violence as the relational norm between Muslims and non-Muslims. He distinguishes both Islamic jihad and armed deterrence from modern terrorism through examination of the 9/11 attacks, and proposes legal proscriptions for terrorism from the Qur'an on the basis of its political, social, and psychological impacts.
ElSayed Amin is a senior lecturer of Islamic studies in English at al-Azhar University in Egypt and a visiting postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD) in Brunei. He is a member of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs in Cairo, and a former Fulbright Scholar.

"Shariah" is one of the most misunderstood and maligned Islamic terms in the West. In the minds of many people, the word conjures up images of uncivilized Muslims whipping criminals, stoning adulterers, and confining women within their homes.
Yet, Shariah literally means a way or a path and, more specifically, the way to a watering place. Far from being a strict penal code, it is a humane, compassionate, and benevolent system of laws that guides Muslims, based on the Quran, the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, and the interpretation of religious scholars.
This book is a simple and concise guide to the Shariah (Islamic law) to explain its meaning, scope and operation in practical life, as well as helping readers understand and appreciate its value and necessity in the believer's life.

A passionate and committed account of Kashmir's struggle for freedom over the last 65 years, and a close-up and personal study of its leading figure, Syed Ali Geelani, which gets behind the stereotype of Indian Muslims as terrorists. An ignored but serious global flashpoint, Kashmir is at the root of tensions between India and Pakistan, the two nuclear states of South Asia, who have fought three wars over it. The heart of the problem is the right of self-determination of Kashmir's fifteen million people, a right denied to them since 1947.
Since 1989, 90,000 people have been killed, over 100,000 have been injured, and over 10,000 are missing, and mass graves continue to be unearthed. Paradise on Fire is the story of the struggle for national liberation of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, spearheaded by Syed Ali Shah Geelani. This political biography of Kashmir's leading freedom fighter reveals the true horror of the Kashmir dispute, the dynamics of this historical struggle for self-determination, and Geelani's huge contribution in leading this search for liberation.
This book surveys the subject of abrogation (naskh) in the Quran, hadith, and Islamic literature.

Jasser Auda
A typical definition of abrogation found in the jurisprudence literature is "the (heavenly) replacement of one juridical ruling with a later ruling."
This book surveys the subject of abrogation (naskh) in the Quran, hadith, and Islamic literature, illustrating that the concept of abrogation was introduced after the prophetic era in order to explain certain verses of the Quran and what has come to be termed as conflicting prophetic narrations (mukhtalaf al-hadith).
It goes on to suggest that the abrogated rulings were merely pre-Islamic cultural practices that contradicted Islamic principles. Furthermore, the book argues that the Quranic verses and prophetic narrations that were misperceived as conflicting should be contextually situated and applied according to the wisdom behind them, with the practical implication being the validation of all Quranic verses and (authentic) prophetic instructions, regardless of their perceived contradictions, allowing Islamic jurisprudence to retain its flexibility within changing circumstances.

Shaykh Muhammad Aman al-Jami
The Quran calls people to believe in the Sunnah and act upon it. Along with the Quran, the Sunnah is one of the true foundations of this religion. Since belief in the Messenger (s) is a foundation from the foundations of iman, then belief in his Sunnah is a necessary component of iman in him because he is the possessor of the Sunnah and because iman, as Imam Ibn al-Qayyim defined it, is "a certain reality [emanating] from cognizance of what the Messenger (s) came with of knowledge, and affirmation of it, believing in it, affirming it with one's tongue, submitting to it out of love and humility, acting upon it outwardly and inwardly, considering it authoritative, and calling to it in proportion to one's ability."

Ahmad Al-Raysuni
Muslims remain largely unaware of the importance and value of the Quranic principle of al-Shura (mutual consultation) and the significant role it can play in the advancement and reform of Muslim society. In this work, the author attempts to introduce and examine key meanings and practices of al-Shura, trace its historical evolution, and explore ways in which the principle can be introduced, institutionalized and applied in Muslim societies. There is no doubt that al-Shura has been sidelined throughout the Muslim world and the reasons for this are both historically and politically complex. According to the author, although much has been written on the subject, in reality it has been at best ineffectively applied and at worst heedlessly ignored. Even today it is a hotly contested issue.
As al-Shura is increasingly associated with democratic participation in a decision-making process, debate has ignited with critics challenging the notion of equating the principle with western notions of democracy, with others claiming that the principle allows for a meaning that breaks the grip of centralized power. These and other issues are investigated with careful scholarship. Al-Raysuni concludes that al-Shura should be adopted as a way of life for all Muslims to protect their interests and as a vital tool for reconstruction and reform. In doing so he addresses the subject from some intriguing new angles, giving insight into areas hitherto little, if at all, examined.
This book will benefit all those interested in the relationship between Islam and a wide variety of subjects.
