It outlines the basic beliefs of Islam and presents a brief sketch of the life of the Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him), the five basic Islamic duties, a selection of stories and four short surahs (chapters) of the Qur'an. The author has attempted to present the topics in easily understood language. The book will go a long way towards laying down the initial foundation on which a child will grow as a Muslim within non-Muslim society.
“Ayat Jamilah/Beautiful Signs”: a Treasury of Islamic Wisdom for Children and Parents is the second book in Eastern Washington University Press' This Little Light of Mine series. A young adult/adult crossover anthology, it draws from not only the core of Islamic spirituality and ethics, the Qur'an, and the traditions (Haddith), but also from the mystical verse, folk tales, and exemplary figures of the Islamic narrative. Unlike any other collection of Islamic stories, Beautiful Signs gathers traditional stories from the farthest reaches of the Muslim world, which stretches from Morocco in the west to Indonesia in the east, and from China in the north to Tanzania in the south. This unique anthology, with its rich and thorough explanatory notes, will be invaluable to anyone wishing to understand, or to teach, geography, world history, or world religions. It will also be treasured by Muslim families and by all parents committed to broadening the lives and values of their children and themselves.

The important pillar of Islam, Salah (daily prayers) is explained in detail in this invaluable book. The aim is to acquaint young Muslims with the knowledge necessary to be able to perform this vital act of worship. The book gives a detailed account of the process of making Wudu, then carefully describes how to perform Salah. In addition to the five daily Salah, there are chapters on Salah for special occasions, eleven Surahs of the Qur'an, and a selection of Qur'anic verses on Ma'ruf and Munkar. The author sets out to achieve this with the use of diagrams, pictures, Arabic text and English transliteration. The intended age range is 10 - 16, although older people may also find it a useful aid to learning. This book should be useful for young English-speaking Muslims, as well as those new to Islam.
