This 5 CD set follows Hamza Yusuf through his tour of the United Kingdom in 2004, and not only raises and answers questions we are being confronted with as a community, but marks a period in history that will never be forgotten. In time, this set will become a classic as the truths set forth are timeless and Hamza Yusuf's courage to make a public stand on behalf of these truths will also be remembered.
In this tour, Hamza Yusuf emphasized that continuing to treat the bitter fruits of problems such as terrorism and not dealing with the roots themselves, will not rid us of those problems. While it is easy for the West to say that Muslims need to resolve their issues, the West has failed to understand why Muslims feel that Western countries are responsible for their suffering.
Instead of attacking Muslims for their inability and incapacity to change their situation, we as Westerners must extend a hand of good will and acknowledge our injustices. Human beings have an immense capacity to forgive, but there must be an apology and recognition that people have been wronged and harmed. Simply sending that message, admitting that people have suffered and looking at their suffering in a real way, would do much to diffuse the resentment and rage.

Louay M. Safi
Dr. LOUAY SAFI provides a systematic analysis of the Qur'anic reference and the prophetic traditions on peace and war. He critically examines the views of classical and modern Islamic scholars in light of the original intent of the Shari'ah. While his views on this subject were articulated as early as 1988, his analysis continues to provide a balanced understanding of the most misunderstood concepts of Islam. I am glad that this work is published at a time when Islam's position on war and peace is being debated very passionately on a global level. I strongly recommend it to all those who are looking for an Islamic understanding of violence, terrorism, war and peace. Dr. Sayyid M. Seed Secretary General, Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) This essay is a lucid and enormously useful exegesis of the meaning of jihad especially as understood in Islamic history. It deserves the widest possible attention. Dr. Anthony Sullivan Center of Middle Eastern and North African Studies, University of Michigan. DR. LOUAY M. SAFI has a Ph.D in Political Science and is currently Visiting Professor at George Washington University, USA, as well as President of the Association of Muslim Social Scientists. He serves on the board of several lading Muslim organizations and is former Director of Research at the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), as well as former Editor of the American Journal of Islamic Social Sciences (AJISS).

Taha Jabir Al 'Alwani
For the first time, Muslims are faced with a worldwide positivism which is working to use knowledge, the sciences and their discoveries and achievements in a manner which severs the relationship between the Creator, the created universe and man, thereby disregarding the world of the unseen and driving a wedge between science and values. Lacking even the most modest store of vital Islamic doctrine on the intellectual level, university students and researchers in the Islamic world are confronted with doctrines and philosophies which are presented to them together with a flimsy, miserable defense of Islam. There is not a single academic institution in the Islamic world in which Islamic thought is taught and in which the Islamic vision is given a deep-rooted foundation with the same force and persuasiveness with which Western ideas and the Western vision are taught to students in the West, in a coherent, comprehensive manner accompanied by seriousness and commitment on the part of all. The book argues that this approach is diametrically opposed to the Islamic perspective and that we must disengage human scientific achievement from positivistic philosophical premises and reemploy these sciences within a systematic epistemological framework based on divine revelation, conferring honor upon all forms of knowledge, as having been bestowed upon man by their Creator.
This book examines the social aspects of Islam, clearly outlining the aims and duties of every Muslim in respect of vital issues in Islamic life and conduct. The subjects dealt with include human rights, the sanctity of life, women's rights, the duties of the Muslim in the workplace, the family, sexual relationships, alcohol, drugs, crime and punishment, 'green' issues and the true meaning of jihad. Reference is made in each chapter to the relevant passades of the Qur'an and Hadith. The aim of the book is to show how Muslims strive to bring God-consciousness (taqwa) into every area of their daily lives, from the important and profound to mundane and simple tasks; and how, in this devotion and urge to serve, striving for the pleasure of their Lord, they find fulfilment and happiness.

Jeffrey Lang
"Crucial to the vitality of any religious community is its ability to attract and engage descendants and converts. By this measure, notwithstanding the proliferation of mosques and Islamic organizations, the Muslim community in America is not doing at all well." This rather sober assessment motivates Dr. Lang to address, in this book, the alienation from the Mosque of the great majority of America's homegrown Muslims.
In Losing My Religion: A Call For Help, the author comes to terms with many of the queries put to him by Americans of Muslim parentage and converts to Islam since the publication of his book Even Angels Ask in 1977. Lang asserts that to effectively respond to the general malaise of American-born Muslims, the Islamic establishment in America needs to be willing to listen to the doubts and complaints of the disaffected. This entails engaging in open discussions on issues with which many in the Muslim community will be uncomfortable, but Lang avers that such open dialogue will be of more benefit to young American Muslims struggling with their faith than the covert and uniformed discussions that often take place or no discussion at all. For this reason, Lang feels it is important and beneficial "to be candid and objective and not evade controversy, for to inadequately state the case for or against a specific position, especially when it challenges convention, only serves to further alienate the skeptical." In addition to examining questions of theodicy, hadeeth authenticity, and moot practices within the American Muslim community, the author includes many testimonials and inquiries that make this book informative.

Calling to Allaah is a very great honour which is not reached through ease, response and love of relaxation. It is not reached except through beneficial knowledge, righteous action, deep understanding and careful following of the way of the Prophets in calling to Allaah.
In this book Shaykh Rabee' ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee explains in detail the methodology of the Prophets in their call to Allaah. In it, he answers those questions which face every caller to the faith who wishes to follow the footsteps of the Prophets: What should his call begin with? What should he concentrate on? And what is the goal of his da'wah to Allaah? The author then compares the methods of the Prophets with the different methodologies employed by various contemporary da'wah groups and movements that have arisen in our time and highlights the stark contrasts between these new, innovated methodologies and the pure and perfect Prophetic way. This book is an important guide for all those active in the field of da'wah, giving them an insight into the methodology of da'wah which the Prophets employed and how it is a divine and precise methodology which leaves no room for personal opinions, experimentation or individual inclinations.
