Growing up is never easy. As simple as that sounds, it is the truth. Many of our young Muslim children are falling prey to many temptations. These "temptations" are not just limited to our teen population. They are also pushed upon our younger children as well. Burhaan Khan is a young Muslim American boy who has to contend with the everyday trials of being a Muslim. What is great about this book is the manner in which the lessons are presented. It lets the reader know that sometimes problems come from outside forces, like in the story "Says Who?" and sometimes the problems are within ourselves, as in the story "A True Warrior."
The six easily readable tales run the gamut in presenting not only problems but solutions as well. Topics like cousins who don't follow Islam and dealing with a bully are addressed in a very straight forward and sensitive manner. These stories provide excellent examples of how to apply Islamic principles in daily life. First, Burhaan learns that a person's character is more important than his material possessions. Next, we see how he reacts when a popular new student tries to gain the attention of others. Burhaan also finds himself confronted with relatives who don't practice Islam; he is challenged to do well on a test, and finally, we end with a heart-warming story about a cat he finds that has a very special need. What better way to show proper conduct in Islam than through the eyes of a young boy who's living it: Burhaan Khan.
“Rashid and the Missing Body” relates a heroic account of the adventurous experiences of a young school boy Rashid and his mates. The story captivates the essence of school and community life and the brave, courageous spirit of the young. It also brings into play life-enriching Islamic values of standing up for truth, a strong sense of duty and bond of sincere friendship. The story throws light on Muslim family life, their morals and manners and their outlook on life. This book designed for the young caters fully to their appetite for the strange, evokes their curiosity and ennobles their emotions. Recommended for key stage 3 (ages 11-15).

Umm Zakiyyah
The internationally acclaimed author of If I Should Speak, A Voice, and Footsteps introduces her first novel written independent of the If I Should Speak trilogy.
In Realities of Submission, the reader witnesses the heart, mind, and life of Renee Morris, the narrator of this reflective tale. Told in three parts, Renee's first person narrative tells of a stringent childhood in her father's church and her ultimate submission to the religion of her nature in young adulthood. As Renee embraces Islam, the spiritual tranquility of her initial conversion begins to wane as she faces the painful realities of navigating the Muslim experience itself. At times humorous and at times painful, the story touches the reader's deepest thoughts and incites the familiar questioning of the human soul.
