The substantive interpretations of the Qur’anic chapters are the best statements, which explicitly unite the chapter and its purposes. It projects the Qur’anic miracle of correlation of verses and in its connection to the chapter’s subject and purposes.
Scholars at this age paid attention to show the substantive unity Qu’anic chapters. Some of those scholars are the Islamic theoreticians Imam Muhammad Abdullah Darraz, Sayyid Qutob, Mahmood Shaltoot , and Muhammad Muhammad Al-Madani, may Allah be pleased with them.
Sheikh Al-Madani excels in showing the purpose by saying, “There is a soul in each chapter of the Qur’an which goes through its verses and dominates its principles, commands, guidance, and style. It is known that Prophet Muhammad (s) ordered to put the chapters in their specific place, which was revealed to him by Allah. This was for a purpose which the substantive interpreters make sure to clarify to consider what early scholars missed in this aspect, to be closer to their age in explaining the purposes of the Holy Qur’an, and show the substantive unity in the Qur’an’s Chapters.”
The Qur’an is the source and reference, but at the same time, it has its own standards, models, and principles. In these models and principles, Allah made Muslims nation of moderation. He made them exemplars of other people; which mean that their laws, characteristics, and models are examples forthe world. These are correct standards which all people return to and which they refer to. Soorat Al-Ma’edah is one of the greatest chapters of the Holy Qur’an.
