The Holy Quran is one message delivered to all of mankind. It is a guidebook for living a life based on Islamic values and good manners. The Holy Quran reveals that this life and the life in the hereafter are seamlessly intertwined. However, it is this life that will determine whether each of us will be successful in the next life. If the two were not connected, this would be contrary to Allah’s Mercy. Allah Almighty gives mankind countless opportunities to attain salvation in this life so that we can reap the benefits in the Hereafter.
The message of the Holy Quran was carried by an Arab man, the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and delivered in the Arabic language. As a result, the Islamic religion and Arab culture are also intertwined. However, the Arab culture is lacking in certain areas due to the influence of western cultures. Isn’t it time to examine our culture and reinvigorate it in accordance with Islam and the needs of humanity? The Arab culture once led the world in a wide array of sciences and humanities. Getting back to our roots will pave the way for future generations and strengthen our state of Islam.

An Introduction to the Sciences of the Qur'aan presents a detailed and thorough explanation of the sciences related to the history, understanding and implementation of the Qur'aan.
The book provides the English reader with a detailed analysis of classic Muslim scholarship regarding the process of Inspiration (wahy); the various means of classifying verses of the Qur'aan; the history of the compilation of the Qur'aan; the meaning of the seven ahruf and the ten qira'aat of the Qur'aan; the miraculous nature of the Qur'aan; the concept of abrogation in the Qur'aan; the procedure and methodology of tafseer; and many other topics. The work has a number of sections dedicated to explaining the traditional Muslim refutations of certain beliefs of the Ash'arees with regards to the Qur'aan.
This book also includes detailed discussions on modern Western scholarship of the Qur'aan. After presenting a history of the English translation of the Qur'aan, along with a critical review of some translations, the author discusses and refutes common Orientalist polemic literature on the Qur'aan. The work is unique in that it presents classic material in a simple and modern style, while maintaining a high academic level. It is the most advanced work of its kind in the English language, and a necessary reference for all serious students of Islamic knowledge.
Just as scientists and researchers are fascinated by the wealth of knowledge and depth of meaning carried in the verses of the Qur'an, modern readers too will find a great deal of benefit in the amazing information and insight offered by this book.

The Qur'an is a book of guidance for all of humanity, and Allah has promised that He will preserve it in its original pristine form until the Day of Judgment. The inimitable style of the Qur’an and the superior wisdom in it are definitive evidences that it is the Word of God. Besides, the Qur'an has many miraculous verses proving that it is undoubtedly a revelation from God and not the work of a human.
Although the Qur'an is not just a book of science, it clearly states a number of scientific truths that were uncovered only with the help of modern technology in the 20th century. How can we explain the numerous scientific facts mentioned in its verses over 1400 years ago?
Time after time, respected scientists and renowned experts from all over the world, upon studying the verses of the Qur'an have had no other choice but to acknowledge that there were no means of knowing these scientific facts 1400 years ago. The only way they could have reached us is through revelation: proving that the Qur'an is the word of God.
Just as scientists and researchers are fascinated by the wealth of knowledge and depth of meaning carried in the verses of the Qur'an, modern readers too will find a great deal of benefit in the amazing information and insight offered by this book.

The goal of this book is not to interpret the chapters of the Holy Quran, as there already exist major books on interpretation such as Al Tabari or Ibn Katheer. The purpose of this book is to address a situation that I noticed occurs every Ramadan. Many Muslims from all over the world attempt to read the Holy Book, from start to finish, before the auspicious month ends. This is a good and noble deed with great reward. However, I have noticed that many Muslims are simply reading the Holy Quran mechanically without giving a thought to the meanings within each surah or even recognizing the purpose in which it was gifted to mankind. This especially holds true with our Muslim youth. I feel that they are honestly trying, but the meaning proves elusive to them.
It saddens me to have come across Muslims who, deep down, do not understand the Holy Quran or mistakenly believe that they do not have to understand it. I felt compelled to act and offer this humble work to bridge the gap of understanding between our Muslim youth and the Holy Quran. This book convinces the reader of a correlation between every single surah in the Holy Book. It goes on to demonstrate that each surah has a specific subject and purpose. And within each surah, the verses are connected in such a wondrous way that the human heart is moved and understanding is achieved. In this way, the reader begins to love the Holy Quran and faith is increased.
It also drives home the message that the Holy Quran is the direct word of Allah, The Wise, and that had it come from another source there would have been much discrepancy therein. Each surah fulfills a purpose and is named appropriately, such as Al-Baqara or Al Imran. Subsequently, the surahs that come before and after each other are also interconnected since the order of the chapters of the Holy Quran were an inspiration from Allah. Understanding each surah, and its placement in the Holy Quran, helps our youth to understand Allah’s intention and what our Lord expects from us. Even if each verse or individual word is not perfectly understood, understanding the purpose of the surah will assist in understanding the Holy Quran.
This book is very useful in providing the basic principles in understanding the Holy Quran. It serves as a guide to the preservers of the Holy Quran and those interested in the science of interpretation.
I have utilized the following methods:
Determine the purpose of each surah.
Present the verses, which confirm this purpose.
Show the relation between the name of each surah and its purpose.
Indicate a relationship between the surahs situated before and after each surah.
Choose select verses for commentary.
The purpose of this book is to serve as a tool to help our Muslim youth understand and reflect upon the verses of the Holy Quran, as well as draw correlations between the various surahs.
The Message of the Qur’an by Muhammad Asad, dedicated to “people who think”, serves as a matchless aid to understanding the Holy Book of Islam and provides in itself a complete education in the faith. As the distinguished British Muslim, Hasan Gai Eaton, explains in a new Prologue to the work, there exists no more useful guide to the Qur’an in the English language than Muhammad Asad’s translation and commentary, and no other translator has come so close to conveying the meaning of the Qur’an to those who may not be able to read the Arabic text or the classical commentaries. Muhammad Asad’s obituary in the Independent praised his magnum opus, The Message of the Qur’an as a work without rival in English as an interpretation of the Holy Book, not only in its “intellectual engagement with the text”, but also in its “intimate, subtle and profound understanding of the pure classical Arabic of the Qur’an”. This new edition makes the work even more accessible by introducing:
a complete Romanized transliteration of the Arabic text.
a supporting guide to pronunciation.
a newly compiled general index of names and key concepts.
Original artwork by the internationally renowned Muslim artist and scholar, Dr. Ahmed Mustafa.
The unique value of Muhammad Asad’s lifelong labor in bringing to light the teachings of the Qur’an is becoming widely and deservedly recognized at a time of growing worldwide interest in what the universal message of Islam has to offer mankind.
It also explains the man-God relationship in Islam..

Four Key concepts of the Qur'an elucidates these basic Qur'anic concepts “Ilah”, “Rabb”, “Ibadah” and Din in order to bring out fully the Islamic way of life, as distinct from other perspectives. This elaboration goes a long way in developing a sound understanding of the Qur'an. It also explains the man-God relationship in Islam, guiding Muslims on how to lead their lives in total surrender to Allah.
Mawlana Sayyid Abul a La Mawdudi (1903-1979), one of the chief architects and leaders of the contemporary Islamic resurgence, was an outstanding Islamic thinker and writer of his time. He devoted his entire life to expounding the meaning and message of Islam, inviting individuals to renew their commitment to their Creator, and to organizing a movement to establish Islam fully. In this struggle, he had to pass through all kinds of suffering: between 1948 and 1967, lie was put behind bars on four occasions, spending a total of five years in different prisons of Pakistan; in 1953, he was also sentenced to death by a Martial Law Court for writing a 'seditious' pamphlet, this sentence later being commuted to life imprisonment. In 1941, he founded “Jama'at-e-Islami”, of which he remained Amir (Chief) until 1972 and which is one of the most prominent Islamic Movements of our day. He authored more than a hundred works on Islam, both scholarly and popular, and his writings have been translated into forty languages.
