This is a carefully reasoned, positive, and largely reflective work. Looking back at the various stages of Islamic historical development, AbuSulayman puts forward a thesis that focuses on the recovery of what is termed the Qur’anic worldview. By this is meant an ethical, monotheistic, and purposeful perspective on the world and those within it. Our faith will only be complete when we have become utterly sincere in our love for God, a love expressed in a pure, passionate love for goodness and truth in this world.
It was the strict internalization of this perspective and close adherence to the principles of the Qur’an which AbuSulayman contends played a key factor in galvanizing the devout and intensely God-conscious followers of fledgling Islam to achieve the successes that they once did, the profound historical and global impact of which is still the subject of much study and admiration today. The rebirth of Islamic identity through this Qur’anic worldview is the key requirement of our times and a prerequisite for any future healthy and viable development of Muslim societies.

Generating precise comprehension of the Quran and the true meaning of its verses is arguably the essence of the most important of the Islamic sciences: Qur'anic exegesis or tafseer. Since the passing of the Prophet many scholars have worked hard to bring a proper understanding of the meaning of the Qur'an to Muslims, and indeed to the world at large, as fully as possible, in an attempt to widen knowledge of the guidance contained therein, and how to live life in accordance with its principles. The result has been a wealth of historical Muslim literature on the subject which has come to be known as Ulum al-Tafseer or the sciences of tafseer, a systematic exegesis of the Qur'an following several methodologies.
This work traces the evolution of Qur'anic exegesis, from the time of the Prophet, the Companions, the Successors, the early mufassirun (exegetes) with independent tafseer works, to the present day. In doing so, it addresses some major issues including to what extent has tafseer been influenced by differing theological traditions (classical, mystical sufi, persian), political and sectarian interests, and how interpretation has differed in some cases, mainly pertaining to juridical, theological, historical, and linguistic issues. Certain scholars and Qur'anic commentaries have stood the test of time and stand in greater prominence to others. Their works are introduced, and different methodologies compared and critiqued. What we are left with is a broad yet important overview of a subject which otherwise can be too complex and extensive for the ordinary reader to grasp acting as a valuable addition to their understanding and study of the Qur'anic text.

The publishers have designed the text to show the rules of Tajweed when reading the Qur'an. The text is written in Uthmani style and has case vowelization and dotting on the letters that are audible. Letters related to Tajweed rules are distinguished within the text by the use of colors, indicating the various Tajweed rules. This technique helps simplify the rules of recitation for the reader in order to encourage and facilitate correct Qur’anic recitation. The text is color-coded: grey indicates when a letter is not pronounced, red indicates letters which require expanded vocalization, green indicates nasalization and blue shows the emphatic pronunciation of the letter. The French translation accompanying this copy of the Holy Qur’an is by Dr. Muhammad Hamidullah.

One of the great masterpieces of world thought, a work of immense religious and literary value, the Qur'an, or Qur'an in the present version, is read and studied by Muslims, spiritual seekers, and students of religion, history, and Middle Eastern culture. Considered a direct message from Allah to humanity, transmitted through the Prophet Muhammad, it extends beyond spiritual concerns to social codes of conduct, scientific knowledge, political and legal wisdom, and even prophecies of future events. Julio Cortes's Spanish translation uses a thoughtful, sensitive style to bring to life both the poetry and the wisdom of this seminal work that has been, and remains a guiding work in the lives of millions of people in many cultures, past and present.

Early Western biographies of the Prophet of Islam (sa) were largely based upon the Qur’an, as well as upon the late Muslim sources dating from the sixteenth century. From Gustav Weil to William Muir, European writers proceeded on the assumption that if a certain amount of careful sifting was done, a considerable body of reliable tradition could be used for biographical purposes. After the publication of Goldziher’s Muhammedanische Studien in 1890, the reliability of Muslim sources became controversial. This stance was intensified by the publication of Schacht’s The Origins of Muhammadan Jurisprudence, in which he claimed that none of the Hadith literature is authentic. Current Western research is characterized by two groups of researchers. One group holds that it is impossible to reconstruct the life of the Prophet (sa) from existing Muslim sources, while the other maintains a more optimistic view of the possibilities. The aim of this study is to prove that applying Western methods of critical analysis to the available Muslim sources can take us back to early, reliable information about the Prophet (sa). Through a critical analysis of MS. Berlin 9409 (the so-called Tārīkh Ibn Abi Shaybah), it successfully challenges some of the problems raised by the pessimistic attitude. Students of Hadith will find this study thought-provoking and informative
