Dawud Wharnsby Ali is a third generation Canadian with Scottish and British roots. From an early age, his artistic interests and creative talents were clear, as he spent hours writing stories and drawing cartoons as a child. As he grew, so did his artistic talents, and he became immersed in music, theatre and travel. His interest in spiritually and his purpose in life peaked over the years, and influenced by the beauty and message of the Qur’an, Wharnsby suspended his musical involvement at one point to focus on the education of children, and on increasing his own knowledge of Islamic spirituality. During this time, he recorded a number of Islamic nasheed collections, including “A Whisper of Peace,” “The Colours of Islam,” and “Road to Madinah.” He has collaborated with a number of other artists, including Yusuf Islam, Zain Bikha and Ifran Makki. He currently resides in Pakistan with his wife and family, and periodically visits Canada and the US for several months a year.
