Yusuf Islam is a nasheed artist, educator, philanthropist and convert to Islam. He was born as Stephen Demetre Georgiou, and was formerly known by his stage name Cat Stevens. As Cat Stevens, he rose to fame as a popular singer, songwriter and artist. After her converted to Islam in 1978, however, he took a long hiatus from performing. He changed his name to Yusuf Islam and devoted his time to raising a family and being active in the British Muslim community. As Yusuf Islam, he established a record label called “Mountain of Light,” recording several albums featuring messages pertaining to Islam and Muslim children, including “A is for Allah.” He has worked and performed with renowned artists Zain Bhikha, Dawud Warnsby Ali, Native Deen, and others.
