Arabic Between Your Hands Series is one program in a collection of programs called “Arabic For All”. This series comprises a developed version of the book “Arabic At Your Hands”, which introduces a comprehensive curriculum for teaching Arabic for non-Arabic speakers, students and teachers. This curriculum is developed for educational entities, including schools, institutes and universities. It begins from the basic level and continues with the students until they master Arabic language, which enables them to join university and continue their Arabic studies in various majors. The developed series is designed by the authors of the original series, who are an academic team specialized in teaching Arabic for non-Arabic speakers. Teacher’s books are identical to student’s book and aim at providing the teacher with a collection of techniques and procedures to help him teach every page in student’s book effectively in a way that achieves the best results.

Teacher’s book includes key answers for all exercises used in student’s books. Each teacher’s book includes the student’s book of the same level (the two parts) with smaller page size to make it easy for the teacher to follow the educational material of the student without the need to have the student’s book itself.

  • There are four teacher’s books, one for each level as follows:
    1. First teacher’s book for the two student’s books of the first level.
    2. Second teacher’s book for the two student’s books of the second level.
    3. Third teacher’s book for the two student’s books of the third level.
    4. Fourth teacher’s book for the two student’s books of the fourth level.

  • Each teacher’s books have many advantages, including:
    • General guidelines to the teachers for teaching language for non-native speakers along with techniques for presenting different language skills and elements.
    • Suggestions about performing the exercises of each level along with suggestion for additional exercises.
    • Answers for the exercises of the student’s books (except for communicative and expression exercises), along with comprehension text.
    • Answers for the questions of comprehensive tests in student’s books (standard, midlevel and final).
    • Summary about the structures, vocabularies and sounds included in each unit and a suggestion for presenting different types of vocabularies.
    • Summary about the goal of each unit and the way of presenting text.
    • Description of units structure and the way of introducing the structures.

  • Other advantages included in teacher’s books:
    • 35 general guideline for teacher.
    • 24 guideline on managing 67 instructions and tips about teaching language, its skills and elements and how to deal with language classroom.

Teaching language is a critical tool in communication and ultimately in the development of knowledge. In our quest to provide our customers with quality materials, we are pleased to offer the Learn Arabic series. It employs modern methods of teaching foreign language to successfully teach the Arabic language to students in K-12th grade. This series was founded upon the following three fundamentals of teaching languages presented in an Islamic context:
    1. Elements: sounds, letters, phrases, and pronunciation
    2. Skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening
    3. Linguistic Functions: introduction, greetings, description, requests, and apologies.
    Series Contents:
The Learn Arabic series consists of textbooks, workbooks, and teacher’s manuals for levels K-12th grade. Jordan Academy of Arabic

Our Arabic Language for Grade Seven follows the curriculum for Arabic language and its general framework; it includes eight units. The writer was careful to choose a variety of reading texts such as poetry, narration, Quranic verses, hadiths, samples of scientists’ biographies, cultural, nationalistic, and Islamic essays, in addition to scientific, social, and literary articles, stories, plays, and tales. The book includes samples of feminist literature so that students can become familiar with different social issues and be equipped to communicate with others about these issues, while listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The units are handled in the following way:
    1. Reading Skill, and it includes:
      • The text, which is presented with full vowelization (tashkeel) and citation of the source
      • The context, which includes a full introduction of the author, their most important achievements, and a brief description of the text and its context
      • The reading, which includes exercises that focus on timed silent reading, expressive reading, and good recitation, taking into consideration the appropriate voice, and when to pause and how to continue
      • The glossary, which includes exercises that explain new vocabulary through the following methods: using a dictionary, using antonyms and synonyms, and using other appropriate methods such as guessing meanings and using related words and context clues
      • Reading comprehension and analysis, which includes questions and exercises to help students name the primary idea and secondary ideas, discover relationships and build conclusions, connect the texts with real situations in students’ lives, create secondary summaries for paragraphs, suggest alternative suitable titles for the text, and answer questions that build the student’s critical and creative thinking, problem solving, and appreciation of beauty
    2. Grammar: This unit includes grammatical exercises that reinforce Grade Six material. Grammar and morphology should be taught through the texts that include the grammar, followed by study: eliciting the grammar rule from the students through conversation and demonstrating self-learning. Several grammar and morphological exercises are included so that students can learn from the examples. The complementary method was used: it combines inductive and syllogistic methods.
    3. Texts: This unit includes a selection of poems students use to increase their ability to read aloud expressively, to understand and enjoy literature, and to maximize their linguistic outcomes. The poetry they memorize also helps them enrich their ability to communicate and express, in addition to introducing them to a new group of authors.
    4. Speaking: The units include exercises and activities connected to the content of the text to develop students’ speaking skills and verbal communication.
    5. Writing: The units include applications of some of the spelling issues presented in texts or sentences, followed by study and exercises.
    6. Listening: The units include listening scripts both in the listening scripts booklet and in the dictation booklet. These scripts are followed by questions to develop multiple listening skills.
    7. Activity: All units are reinforced with activities related to the unit material.

The lessons gradually advance and each principle is revisited from one lesson to the next. It also includes the entirety of the Arabic syntax rules in the levels (fifth- twelfth) and combines application with practical training based upon theoretical rule.

    Integration between the linguistic skills:
The series addresses the four main linguistic skills which are: reading, listening, speaking and writing in a balanced integrated way. Special attention is given to speaking and understanding what is heard in the first two books. In the third through sixth books the concentration is on dictation and reading. In the seventh through ninth books the aim is to connect schools with Arabic libraries, children’s magazines, encyclopedias and helps to simplify knowledge departments.
And in the tenth through twelfth books subjects and literature is presented in their original text with some adjustment. It also presents chosen examples of poetry prose from the poets Al Jahili, Al Omawi, Al Abbasi along with contemporary poets.

    Educational material presenting methods:
Different methods are used in this series to make the lesson exciting for the child. Stories, songs, conversations, linguistic games and entertaining homework are incorporated in the lessons to entice learning and help students identify their preferences. It also helps to awaken students' passion for drawing, coloring and teamwork.
The series includes different types of linguistic exercises that suit children. An emphasis has been given in terms of mental and physical activities, whether performed in pairs or groups.

    Vocabulary list:
There is a list of vocabulary at the end of each book in this series that contains all vocabularies and expressions which were presented in all book lessons. The words are alphabetized so the student can find the words needed easily.

    Evaluation quizzes:
Each book of the series books includes a number of phase quizzes for evaluation and measuring the student’s progress in learning the language.

This book includes 7 educational units that center on children's environment and their everyday activities.
The units are organized as follows:
    • Let's Talk. Each unit begins with a conversation that includes the linguistic elements, vocabulary, expressions, and grammatical structures. The goal of the conversation is to make the learning process easy and to enable students to communicate using the language.
    • New Vocabulary. Illustrated words enrich children's vocabulary and provide them with new words to use.
    • Speaking: Speaking exercises to be completed in pairs allow children to gain fluency using the language by encouraging interaction, sharing, and communication between students.
    • Reading: The reading texts contain a variety of cultural topics and come in a variety of shapes in order to meet children’s needs to learn about the world around them and become cultured.
    • The goal here is to:
      1. Accustom students to silent reading and understanding of the content, so that they can become independent readers.
      2. Accustom students to reading aloud, so that the teacher can correct their reading and pronunciation.
    • New structures. In each unit, students practice creating a new structure of basic Arabic structures. The book presents examples that students can use to create new structures with the help of their teacher.
    • Supporting vocabulary. The student's book contains supporting vocabulary in the form of an illustrated dictionary in the back of the book. It includes new expressions with pictures to aid in students’ retention of the information.

As the interest in studying Arabic has increased exponentially over the past decade, the needs of our students have evolved. Rather than learn¬ing Arabic for the purpose of reading sources for dissertation writing, most students coming to Arabic today wish to use their Arabic skills in order to obtain positions in the business world, in NGOs, and in government-related employment. Especially at state universities, the population of Arabic students is composed of undergraduates who are interested in the Arabic of everyday life: every time that our Arabic program has polled students on their goals for learning the language, the primary one had been speaking. However, historical¬ly, AFL teaching materials have lagged behind those of other languages in terms of leading the learner of Arabic from the more basic to the more advanced conversation skills, functions, and topics.

This book represents an attempt to build the Arabic learner's communica-tive skills sequentially, in terms of vocabulary, grammar, and functional skills. It introduces the student to basic topics that are easily accessible and frequently used in everyday conversation, providing in each lesson a dialogue; speaking, reading, and writing exercises; cultural information; and selections from Arabic magazines and websites. The book focuses on developing spoken MSA skills as a way to enable the beginning student to communicate with speakers across a variety of dialects.

We believe that this book presents an exciting new direction in Arabic language pedagogy in the United States. Our hope is that after using the book, Arabic instructors and students will find this to be the case. Best wishes for a smooth and enjoyable journey with the Arabic language!
