"When Allah wishes good for a person, He makes him understand the religion." This is a famous hadith from Prophet Muhammad. Whenever a Muslim reflects upon this, it becomes readily apparent that the key to success in this life and the Hereafter is knowing and understanding the religion of Islam, and the key to knowing and understanding Islam is learning about it. Undoubtedly, the key to learning about Islam is building and using a "live" Islamic library. Everyone understands what an Islamic library is, but what most are not familiar is what an Islamic library is these days. An Islamic library now is one that not only contains Islamic books in Arabic and English, but contains DVDs, games, electronics, and more. Furthermore, what "live" means is to make the Islamic library activate one's heart and to use it in such a way that it is always "live and livening" one's heart and soul. So, it is quite apparent that it is a must for you to take the first step to learning your religion, and this is what you should do today.

Why Is It Important to Learn Islam by Building and Using an Islamic Library

One of the first things that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was taught was the importance of reading. The first verse of the Quran to be revealed was "Read in the name of your Lord Who created; [He] created the human being from a blood clot. Read in the name of your Lord Who taught by the pen. [He] taught the human being what he did not know." (Chapter 96: Verses 1 – 5) This verse shows the importance of reading and learning, for the skill of reading is what enables a person to learn so much. Thus, reading is the first step to learning your religion.

In fact, by learning and acquiring Islamic knowledge is how to build on the very foundation started by learning how to read in the first, for it leads to the lifestyle that would guide you to Paradise; Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Whoever follows a path in the pursuit of knowledge, Allah will make a path to Paradise easy for him."

Education has always been of importance in Islam, for while the world was deep in the ignorance of the Dark Ages, Muslims were leading the world out of this darkness with astounding breakthroughs in the fields of science, math, architecture, to name a few; this is proof that Islam not only condones education, but has always been the pioneer of it for centuries.

What most might not know is that not only is it of utmost importance to increase your knowledge of Islam, but it is an obligation. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim." So, it not a choice to learn or be learned, for it is a must to do and be so. In fact, the only thing Allah told Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to seek an increase in is knowledge: "and say, 'My Lord, increase me in knowledge.'" (Chapter TaHa: Verse 114)

As Muslims, we know that Islam is a complete way of life. It is through the Quran and hadiths [sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)] that we learn how to live our lives. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us how to handle so many aspects of our daily, ongoing lives, and in order to know how to live them, we must gain and expand our knowledge of the religion of Islam. Our beautiful religion provides the answers to all of our problems. Allah says in the Quran: "… This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as your religion. …" (Chapter 5: Verse 3)

Another way to expand your knowledge of Islam is by learning about your Lord, Allah. Truly, it is through learning about Allah that we gain insight into His Power, Might, and Essence. The more we learn about Allah, the more we appreciate Him and long to meet Him in Paradise, for knowing Him motivates us to meet Him favorably. Furthermore, it is by knowing Allah that we realize that He is truly the only One worthy of worship, the true giver of everything in this life and in the Hereafter. It is by knowing Allah that we taste the sweetness of life. So, even if we were to study every day about our Lord, we could never tire and marvel about His Names and Attributes, and what better way to learn about His Names and Attributes than the very books and sources written and compiled by those who know Him best.

Having said all of this, it cannot be understated that by becoming more knowledgeable in the religion of Islam that you could experience one of the greatest gifts of all: guiding someone either to the path of Islam (becoming Muslim) or imparting knowledge, a form of guidance, to another Muslim. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "Whoever calls people to right guidance will have a reward like that of those who follow him, without it detracting from their reward in the slightest. …" What could be better than this! However, it cannot be achieved without becoming knowledgeable about Islam.

Furthermore, whenever you teach others about Islam, this can become a form of good deeds that continue well after your death; Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "When a man dies, all his deeds come to an end except for three – an ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous son who will pray for him." Thus, leave behind that which will benefit you: beneficial knowledge that you pass on to others. On another note, this hadith suggests how important it is to be a good Muslim parent, striving to raise righteous children. Righteousness can best be instilled into your children by learning and teaching them what you learn. You could become the very role model that they want to become because you have truly taught them what is most important in this life: preparing for the Afterlife.

Furthermore, make your life an act of worship. It is when you are learning and teaching others that you truly making your life an act of worship.

None of these things can be achieved without a "live" Islamic library, a library filled with the very Islamic books, DVDs, electronics, games, etc. that can help you to achieve all of this. You can get all of this and more by actively building and using your Islamic library.
