THE QUR'AN: BASIC TEACHINGS is an anthology of passages from the Qur'an selected and arranged in such a way that it may give a total view of the essential message of the Book, initiate the reader into its world-view and values, capture some flavor from its style, bring the reader's imagination into vivid contact with the vision of the Qur'anic model of man and society and bring him closer to God, the Lord of the Universe. An effort has been made to translate the meaning of the Qur'anic verses into contemporary English. The selections have been grouped under relevant headings showing how the Qur'an provides guidance for the multifarious facets of human life. More important headings include the Qur'anic view of itself, the story of creation, Tawhid (Oneness of God), Risala (Prophethood), Akhira (Life after Death), morality, norms of social behavior, structure of Islamic society, mutual rights and responsibilities of individual and state, economic system and the nature of the mission of the Islamic community. This new edition contains the text of the Qur'an side by side with the English translation.
THE QUR'AN: BASIC TEACHINGS is a handy reference book for all, Muslims and non-Muslims, teachers and students, scholars and laymen alike.

This product covers the last five parts of the Holy Qur’an. The publishers have designed the text to show the rules of tajweed when reading the Qur'an. The text is written in Uthmani style and has case vowelization and dotting on the letters that are audible. Letters related to tajweed rules are distinguished within the text by the use of colors, indicating the various tajweed rules. This technique helps simplify the rules of recitation for the reader in order to encourage and facilitate correct Qur’anic recitation. The text is color-coded: grey indicates when a letter is not pronounced, red indicates letters which require expanded vocalization, green indicates nasalization and blue shows the emphatic pronunciation of the letter.

Muhammad Al-Ghazali
Shaykh al-Ghazali's cogent method of interpretation takes account of the fact (or premise) that each surah of the Qur’an has its unique coherent and integral character. This character is defined by a main subject, or a theme of interrelated topics which together form the body of the surah's subject matter. Once the central subject or theme is identified, the jigsaw pieces come together, enunciating how the rest of the surah falls into line with, or can be related to, that theme.
This is where Shaykh al-Ghazali's greatest contribution lies. By adopting this method, he is able to make the Qur'an more easily accessible, and the task of unlocking its secrets less daunting, more rewarding. In addition to appreciating the beauty of the Qur'an, the reader is now able to have a clearer understanding of its meaning and flow. The surahs come alive, each one assuming distinct features and characteristics that make it stand out and claim its unique position within the whole design and sweep.
Another feature of Shaykh al-Ghazali's work is that he places the Qur'anic subjects within their proper historic and cultural context. This has the effect of relating the Qur'anic subject matter not only to the life and career of Prophet Muhammad, but also to today's world, thereby transforming it into a source of practical guidance and a ready reference for dealing with contemporary issues.
While early scholars endeavored to elucidate many linguistic, historical, and miraculous aspects of the sacred and challenging text, al-Ghazali’s contribution is somewhat unique (and modern) in the sense that it focuses on the organic unity of each surah (chapter) highlighting the logic or inherent reasoning that courses through the surah and unifies its various components and images.

The development of the disciplines and branches of knowledge which were related to the understanding of the Qur'an and arc considered necessary for this purpose - what is known as ulum al-Qur'an - began in the lifetime of the Prophet himself, peace and blessings be upon him. Numerous books have since been written on this subject, in most Muslim languages. However, until now there was no book in English language on this subject. The author has therefore rendered a great service by compiling the first English book, which fills a very serious and deeply-felt gap. An average English reader who has no access to an Arabic text like al-itqan had nothing to help him/her in understanding the Qur'an. This book is precise, brief, yet quite comprehensive. It deals with the traditional subjects such as meaning of revelation, history and transmission of the text, asbab al-nuzul, exegesis, etc. as well as issues of more recent origin, like recording of the Qur'an, orientalists' views, translations and others. The concluding chapter has valuable practical advice for reading and studying of the Holy Book of Islam.

Sayyid Abul Ala Mawdudi
Towards Understanding the Qur’an; Abridged version of Tafhim al-Qur’an is a fresh English rendering of Sayyid Mawdüdi’s monumental and masterly Urdu translation of the Qur’an with a selection of commentary (Qur’an appears in English). Here is a work with a difference by a scholar of an entirely different sort. An immense wealth of profound understanding of the Qur’an is here with deep insights and a valuable exposition of social, political, economic, and legal teachings of the Qur’an. But what makes this work unique is that it translates the Qur’an as a book to be lived by, a mission to be lived for, and a duty that readers can no longer evade or postpone. This rare quality is imparted not only by the depth of his scholarship and style of exposition, but also because Sayyid Mawdudi lived by this understanding of the Qur’an. Despite being an abridged version, this book endeavors to answer many contemporary questions and makes the Qur’an fully relevant to the concerns of our day since it loses nothing of its timelessness or sacrifices any of the traditional understanding. It demonstrates the unity and coherence of the Qur’an by centering everything on its message, like gems hung on a single string. A glossary, biographical notes, general and subject indexes also add to the understanding of the Qur’an. In summary, this work by Sayyid Mawdudi is offering us what we need most to understand and live by, the Qur’an.
English translation of the Qur’an, in modern English by Mawlana Mawdudi along with selected commentary.
